NAPPANEE – Brock Flickinger did a lot of things well in his time at NorthWood High School. Huntington University noticed.
The now graduated point guard for the Panther basketball program announced he is continuing his hoops and academic careers at Huntington as part of the inaugural recruiting class of new coach Kory Alford.
Flickinger helped the Panthers to a sectional championship this past season, the ninth in team history and the second for Flickinger, who also helped the team to a title in 2018. He earned the Mental Attitude Award from his team as a senior.
The floor general was a reliable shooter, finishing as a 51 percent shooter from the floor overall and 62 percent from inside the arc. Flickinger also shot 73 percent from the free throw line and finished his senior season with per-game averages of 6.3 points, 2.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds.
While basketball was a success for the senior, he was even larger in the classroom, where he finished ranked No. 1 in his class with a 4.0 GPA and earned a host of academic accolades.
The son of Curt and Shelley Flickinger will head to Huntington and play for Alford, who takes over in his first college head coaching job. Alford, whose father, Steve, has area ties after coaching at Manchester (then College) and having coached NorthWood head coach Aaron Wolfe. Kory and Steve coached together at UCLA and New Mexico before Kory jumped to Nevada as director of player development.
The Foresters finished 14-16 last season and 6-12 in the Crossroads League. Alford replaces Ty Platt, who guided the Foresters for 11 seasons.
